I personally enjoy the style of these starting blocks. They are easy to carry by the center handle, they are easy to transport as the pedals are locked into the center rail, and they have pedals that are easily adjustable to your desired angle.

  • High quality light-weight all Aluminum casting.

  • 5 pedal angle adjustments 35°, 45°, 55°, 60° and 65°.

  • Easy carry center rail.

  • Pedals will not come off rail during transport.

  • They are slightly on the expensive side.

  • The pedal height is too small for advanced sprinters to optimize their force when driving out of the blocks. The pedals are not long enough to get the proper power from both feet.

Scholastic Starting Blocks

These are the best all around “bang for your buck” starting blocks. They are study, durable, easy to use and rather inexpensive. These starting blocks are the most popular and are the go-to blocks for many high school and college athletes.

PROS

  • They are sturdy enough on many track surfaces to apply the force you need to have an optimal start out of the blocks. The center rail has a width of 2.5’’ and has spikes underneath the pedals giving you extra traction.

  • The pedals are easy to adjust. The center rail has slots along its track that allows you to easily pick up the pedals and place them in your desired starting position. Changing the pedal angles are also effortless. This starting block can be easily changed to fit each unique runner.

CONS

  • The pedal height is rather small, so if you are an advanced athlete looking to load your back heel to get a good elastic response, it will be much harder getting it from these blocks.

Cantabrian Grand Prix Starting Blocks

These starting blocks are a twist off of the “Newton” starting blocks but they are made by CANTABRIAN. I personally enjoy these style blocks as they are easy to hold, easy to transport, and are very durable, but the down side to these blocks are the price and the pedal height.

PROS

  • Ideal for International and Collegiate competition.

  • Meets NFHS regulations and is IAAF certified.

  • These starting blocks are made with the ultimate quality.

  • Eight inch square five angle pedal face. Customize with 35, 45, 55, 60, or 65 degree angle.

  • You can easily carry this starting block on and off the bus. The pedals will not come off the starting block in transit has an easy carry center handle.

CONS

  • VERY EXPENSIVE

  • The pedal height is too small for advanced sprinters to optimize their force when driving out of the blocks. The pedals are not long enough to get the proper power from both feet.
